FREQ 107 Style
FREQ 107 hit the airwaves back in 1999, providing Christian music to listeners across Winnipeg. The station soon garnered a following for broadcasting popular hit tunes across the region. Listeners, known as the 'Freq Army', were known to be extremely passionate about the station and the youthful 12-24 demographic proved to be an important segment of FREQ's listener base.
FREQ 107 innovated in many areas of the broadcasting industry, reaching beyond music to feature exclusive events and concerts. Popular Christian artists, such as Jeff Martin, played live shows for the station's followers. Freq Army subscribers also had opportunities to win fantastic merchandise, gig tickets and vip invites to exclusive shows. Special listener prizes included snowboard tours and large cash giveaways! The station went through many stages of innovation and adaptation, and officially took up an alternative rock format in 2003. The station continued to provide listeners with spiritual commentary on the records it played.
After five more years, FREQ 107 again become a specialist Christian radio station, once again adopting its original format. It was felt that new demand existed in this niche, and the station was able to return to its original roots.
